Do the bismuth eye shields introduce any artifacts when doing brain scanning (e.g., FDG) using PET/CT and measured attenuation?

Per our plant, we have not had reports of artifact generation with measured dose scans. However, we have had multiple reports of the AttenuRads being less effective on measured dose machines. Most facilities are angling the gantry such that the lens of the eye is not much impacted by the main beam, and using the eye shields as an extra measure of protection. We always recommend phantom studies prior to use of the shields as each machine and each facilities use of the shields are different.
